January 2008

Off Season

Although we don't release any Nancy Drew games January - June, our game production team is hard at work creating the next game. They're ALWAYS working on a game - it's pretty impressive that they create not just one, but TWO awesome games each year, when a large usually studio only releases a game one every 3 years or so.

While production is working on the next game, marketing gathers feedback about the previous game to make recommendations to the game designer for the following game. So for instance, we released Legend of the Crystal Skull in October and we'll follow up on the fan opinions in the next few weeks. The production team is currently putting the pieces together for The Phantom of Venice and game design is creating the story ND19. We all work with the game during different parts of the game's lifecycle so things don't actually happen as linearly as they appear. So if we collect data about Legend of the Crystal Skull now, it probably won't be implemented in the game until the 2nd game after its release. This is why it takes some time before customer requests are made. I assure you - we do read all of the mail you send the messages you post on the message board. We are so lucky to have such vocal fans that tell us exactly what they like and do not like about our games: it takes the guessing out of design. So please, continue to email us at feedback@herinteractive.com or post on the message board about the games. Oh yea, we have a survey for you to answer coming later this week.

Contest Prizes Part II

We received a few suggestions for prizes for our next contest. Here's a few:
- Police badge from the next game
- Designing a character's outfit
- Receiving the game before everyone else
- using their voice as a phone friend
- designing a Sassy Detective award
- designing a small part of the game
- game of choice
- Nancy Drew school supplies
- strategy guide of choice
- collection of books the games are based on
- Nancy Drew poster
- a book about creating a Nancy Drew game
- Picture signed by the voice actors
- exclusive wallpaper
- Game music CDs
- Sonny June art
- Nancy Drew movie
- Nancy Drew coffee cup

Those are some pretty cool ideas that I hope we'll be able to use as prizes in the future. Designing parts of games is kind of difficult logistically since there are tons of details involved, but we'll see what we can do.

We decided that the winner wins: the entire Nancy Drew PC game collection (all 17 games). It's a trivia contest, so start brushing up on your game knowledge!

Contest Prizes

Every once in a while, we have contests in our newsletter. Next week's January newsletter (sign up) is no exception. The question is, what should we use for prizes? I'm sure you guys have lots of ideas, so let us know! In the past we've given away:

Danger Wear Design t-shirts
Signed Nancy Drew games
Wolf plushies
Cameos in the Nancy Drew game
Nancy Drew books and movies

Unfortunately, we can't give away any trips to visit Her Interactive or dig up the old Vampire Diaries games, but I bet our fans will have lots of other ideas. Email us at webmaster@herinteractive.com.

Sassy Detective Awards

I think a lot of fans have had the chance to play Legend of the Crystal Skull by now, even the ones who just received it as a present. For those of you who have been playing the games for a while, did you notice the new format for our Sassy Detective Awards? The badges you choose at the beginning of the game for Junior or Senior detective show how many awards you've already earned. Now I'm wondering, does anyone have all of the Sassy Detective awards for the game.

From what the game designers told me, the Chatty Cathy detective award is the most difficult to accomplish. Has anyone gotten this award yet?

Oh, Nancy Drew Central has a new factoid about the games.

2008

We're back from our Winter Break and ready for the new year! As usual, each new year is full of surprises from Her Interactive and 2008 is no exception. Last year we had the Nancy Drew movie to help get fans excited about the games, so this year we'll try to keep the momentum going from the exposure we received. There are a lot of fans who may be relatively new to the Nancy Drew games, so I'd like to welcome you to the community.

2008 is going to be a great year for Nancy Drew fans - jut wait and see! Make sure you check this blog regularly for updates and behind-the-scenes information!

Happy New Year!
