Tornado Warning!
Mon, 2010-04-26 16:39 — HerInteractiveWe are excited to announce that we are going to start releasing bits of information about Nancy Drew #22: Trail of the Twister! The game will start preordering at the beginning of June and will be in stores near the end of June, which is actually a month earlier than we would normally ship!
This game is exciting because for the first time, Nancy is going up against a force even she can't control: Mother Nature. There might be sabotage, but at least she can comprehend the suspect and put an end to their troubles, but when there are tornados rumbling down the ally, it's wise to take cover before the storm.
The most recent tornado that touched down in the southeast left a massive trail of destruction. Tornadoes are extremely dangerous and scientists have spent many decades studying them to try to predict where they'll form to save lives. To gather research, a storm chaser must place herself in already dangerous situations and mysterious equipment failures make it all the more deadly!
So get ready to learn and chase these powerful forces of nature from the safety of your computer. And make sure you sign up for the monthly newsletter that will have more information about the game!
From Drew to Draw
Mon, 2010-04-19 22:00 — HerInteractiveAt the Nancy Drew convention in Merritt Island, we had the chance to meet and interview famed artist and professor at Hawaii University, Laura Ruby. She created a series of screen prints inspired by the original books. The paintings take the title of the books and play with the words, finding different interpertations or references to the words in the title or the events in the books. Nancy's silhouette is always hunting down some clues to the mystery and Laura invites the viewer to look closer at the painting to discover more puns and references to the original book. Often there is also a symbolic call for help as well.
We had the opportunity to interview Laura about one of her favorite pieces - Mystery of the Tolling Bell. Check out the video below:
Here's the screen print of the artwork she's describing.

Laura also created an installment sculptures called Mise Unseen and Mystery of the Open Book. Installments are temporary structures created and then dismantled. You can actually walk through these See these installments:
Meeting of the Nancy Drew Fans
Mon, 2010-04-12 18:11 — HerInteractiveOver the weekend we attended the Nancy Drew convention and met a lot of Nancy Drew fans! The most hardcore Nancy Drew fans are part of the Nancy Drew Sleuths club and hold a convention every year where they discuss Nancy Drew and explore her universe. It's a place where a lot of the attendees can quote the books, tell you about any revisions from the original text, and discuss what was significant about each book.
We had a lot of fun seeing how each fan interperted Nancy Drew and made her legacy their own. Some fans, like Jen Fisher, collect all of the books, starting from the originals. Other fans create scrapbooks with Nancy Drew themes while others make jewelry from the book covers. Their creativity is endless! During dinner, fans also dressed up as their favorite character from the books. We saw Nancy from the 1930's, Nancy and Bess from the Golden Pavillian, Nancy's grandmother, and even Ned!
A few speakers gave some fun presentations including one about Nancy Drew fans, Nancy Drew inspired artwork by Laura Ruby, designing the games (us!), a speech by Rudy Nappi (cover artist for the Nancy Drew books 1953-1979), a timeline of when Nancy Drew has met the Hardy Boys, and how to scrapbook with Nancy Drew! Talk about a jam packed convention day!
A few of our Nancy Drew game fans also showed up to meet us! We're so glad we got to interview and meet some of you! It always amazes us and makes us feel warm and fuzzy inside when fans come up and tell us that they love our games and that we do a great job bringing Nancy Drew to life! There's a lot of videos that need to be edited so look for those in the coming weeks.
So until the next convention in Charlotsville, VA we hope that all of the Nancy Drew fans out there continue to share her spirit and keep their eyes peeled for the next case!
Interview with the Diehards
Tue, 2010-04-06 14:03 — HerInteractiveWe're going to the Nancy Drew convention this weekend in Merritt Island, FL and we'll be there interviewing fans! Well, actually, we're going to give a presentation on how we create the games from the books, but we're excited to meet diehard Nancy Drew fans who have trekked out for this event. If you're interested in letting us interview you, stop by our booth!
Here's a few fun questions we were thinking about asking:
1) How has Nancy Drew changed your life?
2) Tell us about a time you pretended to be Nancy Drew.
3) What’s your favorite thing about Nancy Drew?
4) What’s your favorite Nancy Drew case (book or game)?
5) What was the first Nancy Drew book you read?
6) What’s one piece of advice you learned from Nancy Drew?
7) How many Nancy Drew books do you have in your collection?
8) In Clue of the Tapping Heels, Nancy has to tap out Morse code to call for help. Can you tap out SOS in Morse code?
9) Nancy Drew is always prepared. Do you carry a vial of perfume to revive people who have fainted (mystery of the 99 steps)?
10) Are you more like Nancy, Bess, or George?
11) If you were to write a Nancy Drew book, what would you call it?
Is there any questions you think we missed or would be fun to ask fans?
We'll see you at the convention on Saturday!
